Manufacturing Operations & Reporting Platform
From barcode scan to boardroom report — one system.
A comprehensive manufacturing operations extension built on Dolibarr ERP — adding a digital factory job card system, MRP capacity planning, real-time production dashboards, and multi-dimensional sales and inventory reporting for a South African contract filling and packing operation.
The Challenge
A South African manufacturing and packaging partner — specialising in free-issue filling and packing solutions for household, personal care, and home-care products — was running Dolibarr as their ERP but had a significant gap: Dolibarr handled their orders and stock, but the factory floor operated on paper. Job cards were printed, manually filled in, lost, or filed incorrectly. There was no visibility into which manufacturing order (MO) was in progress, who was working on it, or how long operations were actually taking versus the estimated time.
Beyond the shop floor, management had no consolidated view of production capacity versus demand. Could they take on the next order without creating a bottleneck? Nobody knew until it was already a problem. Monthly sales and inventory reporting required manual exports and spreadsheet manipulation that took days.
The Solution
We built a custom Dolibarr module covering four operational domains.
The digital job card system replaced paper entirely. Factory operators scan an MO barcode on a floor-mounted tablet — a mobile-optimised interface displays the relevant manufacturing order, lists all production operations, and lets operators clock in and out of each step. Actual time per operation feeds back into Dolibarr in real time.
The MRP capacity planning module visualises current load versus available capacity across the production schedule. Shortage alerts flag overcommitted periods before they become delivery failures. A capacity-versus-demand dashboard gives management a rolling 8-week view of production load.
Custom reporting modules deliver sales-by-month and sales-by-product breakdowns with configurable date ranges, directly inside Dolibarr. Inventory reports generate consolidated stock positions across all warehouses. A bank PDF import tool automates statement reconciliation — removing a manual process that previously took hours per week.
Results
- Paper job cards eliminated — 100% digital factory floor tracking
- Real-time MO status visible from office without walking the floor
- Capacity shortages identified an average of 11 days earlier
- Monthly reporting time reduced from 2 days to under 30 minutes
- Bank reconciliation automated — hours of manual work eliminated weekly
- Actual vs estimated operation times tracked for continuous quoting improvement
